Privacy Policy

Plot Twister

Effective date: June 12, 2026

1. Introduction

Plot Twister is an iOS app developed by Reno Labs that lets you steer AI-generated interactive stories. This Privacy Policy explains what information Plot Twister collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information. It applies to the iOS app and the backend that powers it.

2. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

• Display name — optional, used to identify you on leaderboards and shared outcomes. You can change it any time in Profile.
• Custom whispers and free-form story input — the text you type to steer the narrative. This is sent to our backend, which forwards it together with the current story context to Google’s Gemini models so the AI can generate the next chunk of the story.
• Subscription / purchase information — when you buy a subscription or credits, Apple processes the transaction and our subscription provider records the purchase status. We do not receive your payment card details.

Information Collected Automatically

• Device-based identifier — a random ID generated on first launch and stored locally. We use it to keep your story state and subscription status consistent across sessions. It is not a hardware identifier and is not used for tracking.
• Product interaction events — which screens you visit, which episodes you start, which nudges you choose. We use this to improve the app and the stories.
• Diagnostic and crash data — if the app crashes or hits an error, we collect a stack trace, the device model, and OS version to fix the issue.
• IP address — automatically logged by our backend and by third-party services we use. We do not store it long-term beyond what is required for security and fraud prevention.

Information from Device Permissions

The only iOS permission Plot Twister requests is:

• Photos (add only) — used solely when you tap “Save” on a Plot Twist recap card to save the image to your Photos library. We never read your existing photos.

Plot Twister does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, location, health data, calendar, reminders, or any other permission.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Run the app — generate story chunks, save your progress, deliver your subscription benefits, and let you share your outcomes.
• Improve the app — diagnose crashes, understand which episodes engage players, and tune the story engine.
• Display in social features — your display name and Plot Twist Score may appear on episode leaderboards and on the featured outcomes feed visible to other players.
• Communicate with you about the service — only if you contact us. We do not send marketing emails.

4. Third-Party Services

Plot Twister integrates the following third-party services:

• RevenueCat — manages subscriptions and credits. Receives your device-based identifier, App Store transaction info, and IP address. RevenueCat privacy policy.
• PostHog (US region) — captures product analytics events and crash / error diagnostics (stack traces, app version, OS version). Receives your device-based identifier, event properties, and IP address. We do not use PostHog for cross-app tracking. PostHog privacy policy.
• Google (Gemini API) — generates the interactive story text. The whispers and free-form input you type, together with the current story context, are sent to Google’s Gemini models to produce the next part of the story. See Google’s Gemini API terms and privacy policy.
• Apple App Store — handles all payments and subscription billing.

Plot Twister does not include advertising SDKs, third-party tracking SDKs, or any social media SDK.

5. Data Storage and Security

• Your progress and cached episode data are stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData.
• Your authentication token is stored in the device Keychain.
• Server-side, your account and playthroughs are stored in a PostgreSQL database operated by Reno Labs on Hetzner infrastructure in Europe. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest.
• We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (Profile → Delete My Data), we delete your server-side record and your local data is cleared.

6. Your Rights

European Economic Area / United Kingdom (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict our processing. You can exercise the deletion right directly in the app (Profile → Delete My Data). For any other request, email us at privacy@renolabshq.com.

California (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

7. Children’s Privacy

Plot Twister is rated 17+ and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Account Deletion

You can permanently delete your account and all associated server-side data at any time:

1. Open Plot Twister.
2. Tap the Profile tab.
3. Tap Delete My Data.
4. Confirm Delete Everything.

Deletion is immediate and irreversible. You will start fresh as a new user if you continue to use the app.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date above and notify users in-app the next time you open Plot Twister. Continued use of the app after a policy change indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
